Chennai Super Kings are back to IPL circuit after its two years ban. In its previous match, the team enjoyed several big wins. As always, CSK is getting ready for IPL 2018 tournament with its mature squad. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the team has players like Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Shane Watson, Imran Tahir and so on. While Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Kedar Jadhav, Sam Billings and others are the young bets, CSK’s strongmen are older and experienced.
CSK has been careful to choose players from their own locality. But for this season, the approach changed a bit. It became clear when Ravichandran Ashwin was left apart. However, the team selected Murali Vijay from his home, adding up on its batting ensemble. Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith are also out of the equation. This time, the team invested more on selection of bowlers. Players like Kedar Jadhav, Shane Watson and Shardul Thakur would strengthen the bowling front. Additionally, Lungi Ngidi is a strong re-enforcement for the department.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh and Ambati Rayadu are players from Mumbai Indians. They have played big games in last season and the experience would pay well for CSK. Skipper MS Dhoni is with a record of scoring highest runs death overs of the tournament. His strike rate in the league is 229. On the other hand, Dwayne Bravo is the highest wicket taker in death overs since season 2013.
Bringing on loads of spin options, it is apparent that the Super Kings will pose this as the prime attack of the season. Further, the home ground has been suitable for spin bowling as it is slow. In any game, CSK will have a minimum of three spinners. The team will campaign against Mumbai Indians on the opening day of the tournament. Their last league phase match is against Kings XI Punjab, scheduled on May 20.
