Challengers and Lions to fight for desperate Win at Rajkot
Chris Gayle is still to show up his emphatic strikes with the bat this season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has just got back its spearhead batsman. Injury issues might have put the team among the bottom squads so far in IPL-10, but the team just cannot be ignored with the type of formation they have. Additionally, records of finishing as top after lagging throughout half the tournament is not new in IPL. RCB has won only a single match in last five fixtures they played. On the other side, the teams seem to be equal with Gujarat Lions, as Lions are afresh just after the first win this season. The Rajkot pitch already gave them the victory against Rising Pune Supergiant. Both the Lions and Challengers are on the bottom half of the point chart and the fixture would be a desperate tussle to win.

Bangalore is slogged with inconsistency of batsmen. The likes of Chris Gayle have not outshined others, while players like Shane Watson are still to make a mark. In this condition, the pressure on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers is high as the batsmen solely responsible to score in the squad. Only a change in the situation would bring the team out of its woes. The combination of players with Bangalore seems to form a formidable team. But throughout the early matches, they played without the top batsmen and in the latter matches, their top batsmen could not make them win.

In bowling, the concern has been a slight offbeat combination of players who are not coping up to on-field conditions. The arsenal comprising of Tymal Mills, Samuel Badree, Yuzvendra Chahal must get in with the Rajkot pitch to topple its home team. Gujarat bowlers too are struggling to find an impressive stance except Andrew Tye and Basil Thampi.

Per Mohammed Kaif, assistant coach of Gujarat Lions, the team has some “fantastic overseas players” and players who can win the game on their own. He pointed out batsmen like McCullum, Arron Finch and Steve Smith on batting front and Andrew Tye on bowling. He also reminded Tye’s stance as a Player of the Match. Bangalore head coach Daniel Vettori said the team is constantly searching for the right balance. He also put a stop light on Gayle, citing him as a very good performer.
