Australia is now ready to tour India for the next ODI and T20 International series in the upcoming months of September and October. The ODI team has included Nathan Coulter-Nile and James Faulkner for the tour. For the T20 series, several new players are included into the team. Jason Behrendroff, Tim Paine and Dan Christian has made the way up to the tournament. Cricket Australia announced the names of the players included for the tour recently, on August 18. The tournament will miss Mitchell Starc, who is recovering from an injury.
Nathan Coulter-Nile recovered from the back injury that kept him out of the game since June 2016. National Selector Trevor Hohns applauded the bowler for his “raw pace and side with good variation.” He said it is “great to see” the player back from the injury. He hopes, Nathan’s presence in the team will have a big impact in the series. It was in June 2016, when the bowler played his last match before being injured. Another player James Faulkner was absent in the last Champions Trophy campaign. It was in 2017, February. Per Hohns, Faulkner is a solid one-day campaigner. The selector sided with him because he has a “good understanding” of Asian pitches. Hohn’s reminded his strong stance in the tour to Sri Lanka the previous year.
Dan Christian has a good experience of the subcontinent’s pitches. He was with Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017 season of IPL. In the tournament, he claimed 11 wickets playing 13 matches. He is an allrounder in the team. Tim Paine, the wicket-keeper batsmen have strong T20 International record in Australian pitches, especially in BBL seasons. While Jason Behrendorff returned from his injury and it will be his maiden T20 International campaign. He has been a top attacker of Perth Scorchers in consecutive BBL seasons.
Mitchell Starc is the star player who will miss the campaign. His right foot was fractured at the Bangalore match against India in March. Per team physiotherapist David Beakley, his healing process is slower than expected. He is considered for the Ashes tour.
