Ben Stokes to play domestic cricket in New Zealand until joining team England
Canterbury Team will feature the player in the ongoing Ford Trophy tournament in New Zealand.

Early in this week Ben Stokes erupted on Social Media with his cricket kit at London’s Airport. England and Wales Cricket Board made it clear that the player is not up to joining Ashes, rather visiting his family at Canterbury, New Zealand. There were comments that the player might be carrying his tools to play some backyard cricket. In fact, Stokes had the plan to join New Zealand domestic circle as a Canterbury player, until the dust settles over his Bristol brawl. Lately, Canterbury Cricket Club announced that the player has signed up for the ongoing domestic season. As per reports, both New Zealand Cricket and Cricket Australia agreed over the player to let him join the tournament.

Ben Stokes will play for Canterbury against Otago on his first assignment. The player will join the ongoing Ford Trophy on December 3 at the Rangiora match. Several associations were involved in the process of transition apart from ECB and NZC, the Canterbury Cricket Association and New Zealand Cricket Players Association were also on board. Per Gary Stead, Director of CCA, Stokes’ presence in Canterbury will bring his experience to young players of the club. Stead added, his participation will also keep him fit to join his team any time. The Canterbury team is also looking forward to the player.

Meanwhile, the Avon and Somerset police department is known to have completed the ongoing investigation over Stokes. His case is now transferred to the Criminal Prosecution Service. The latter will charge him and direct further disciplinary procedure. The player might not be able to join the ongoing Ashes tournament as the charge sheet will be ready only after couple of days. The police reported that one of the victims has his eye socket fractured. The process is expected to take place over weeks. Until the case is settled, Stokes will be playing domestic cricket in New Zealand.
