Ben Stokes dropped from ODI squad against Australia
Stokes victim in the Bristol incident got his eye socket fractured.

Ben Stokes was named by England selectors in the list of players in the ODI squad against Australia. However, it was tentative, with selectors commenting that they presented the best list of players irrespective of their feasibility to play the series. Ben Stokes is being suspended from the team following his uncertainty in the police verdict following the Bristol brawl. As the player was not cleared off the charges, Dawid Malan replaced him in the ODI team. Presently, Stokes is awaiting to be charged by Crown Prosecution Service. Per ECB, his selection in the ODI team was based entirely on police’s verdict.

England and Wales Cricket Board will take disciplinary actions against both Ben Stokes and Alex Hales, pertaining to the night club incident. There is a chance that Stokes might be out of the international squad for 6 months to a year. However, he will be allowed to join franchisee cricket like IPL or BBL. This was posed by Tom Harrison, Chief Executive of ECB. The player was arrested by police and was released on bail after he was caught punching a person outside a night club in Bristol. The victim suffered a fracture on his eye socket. Stokes is currently playing as Canterbury player in New Zealand’s domestic circuit.

England’s poor form in the recent Ashes series is being partially due to absence of player like Stokes. He was at the top of his form when lashed with the lapse in discipline as an international cricketer. England could only draw the Boxing day test after being defeated in three consecutive matches. The team however, found some form in Dawid Malan during the series, which gave him the ticket to the ODI team as well. For Malan, the series will be his debut in ODI. The series will begin from January 14. A tri-series among England, Australia, and New Zealand in T20 format will follow the ODI tournament.
