Australia Women Team bets on pace options to tussle England
Ashleigh Gardner is picked as an allrounder in the middle order of Australias line up.

Both the Women teams of Australia and England are going through facelift, changing players in the primary squad. After England announced the 15-member team with now inclusions, Australia came up with a handful of debutants in the series. Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, and Amanda-Jade Wellington are brought into the Test circuit for their maiden matches. The Ashes series will start on November 9. It will be the first Women’s day-night Ashes Test. In the last season, England lost to Australia. Now, the latter is betting on debutants to tackle England at home. Australia has dropped two players Kristen Beams and Belinda Vakarewa.

Per Shawn Flegler, Australia selector, Beams was not selected because they wanted to include only a single leg spinner. He said Beams is “unlucky” to be left out. Meanwhile, the selectors emphasized on pace options. This led them to Belinda Vakarewa, who is showing a “promising sign” per selectors. Per Flegler, it is pleasing to see that Australia women team is coming up with several pace bowlers. The bowling ensemble is picked to get Australia in a “well-balanced” state. The selectors want the team to be capable to take at least 20 wickets. Australia is focusing more on the formation to win the match, because it would haul the team to a leading position in the series.

Earlier, England selectors also included several debutant players in the squad. Kate Cross, Tash Farrant and Amy Jones were picked in the Test squad as the new players in the format. These players have good record in domestic Test formats or in specialized departments. Also, England had an eye to the Red ball experience. The upcoming test match will feature red ball. On the other side, Australia has the old and well tested batting line up comprising of Alex Blackwell, Nicole Bolton, Lauren Cheatle and debutant Gardner in the middle order.
