Australia sectors render massive facelift in Ashes team
Cameron Bancroft will debut in the Ashes series as the opener.

Australia selectors are trying to makeover the Test team with a complete facelift. This approach is apparent clearly with the selection of Tim Paine, Cameron Bancroft, Shaun Marsh, and Chadd Sayers in the Ashes team. Paine and Bancroft are added as batsmen, while Marsh is included in the middle order. Sayers is expected to boost the bowling attack.

Paine’s selection is based on the batting prowess as well as his experience with the gloves. Per Chief selector Trevor Hohns, he was on the radar since long. The selector lauded Paine as “renowned as a very good gloveman.” Per Hohns, the player performs well for Australia whenever he played with the national team. Paine’s recent form while playing alongside Australia XI is the primary thrust to his selection. In a recent match against England, the player knocked a half century. He is the captain of the team.

Another player included along with Paine in the 13-member squad is Cameron Bancroft. The player is selected for the first two Ashes Tests. The debutant is included as the opener of the batting line-up. Per selectors, he was a “player of interest”. Hohns added that Bancroft was “unlucky” to miss the Bangladesh tour in 2015, as it was cancelled. Apart from Bancroft and Paine, Shaun Marsh is also brought back to the squad. His form is “very well,” per selectors. Hohns’ pointed the JLT ODI cup as well as the Sheffield Shield competition for the player’s positive performance.

While selectors are bringing new players into the squad, the previous favorites were axed. For instance, Matt Renshaw and Mathew Wade are rested from the squad at present. Per selectors, Wade is inconsistent in his performance as a keeper as well as a batsman. Renshaw is out of form, per Australia selectors and they does not want to play him in Ashes for now.
