Australia rolls out A team to tour England, headed by Matt Renshaw
Matt Renshaw will lead the young team against Australia in the warm-up fixture.

While England and Australia are busy in Ashes, the A teams of the sides are also preparing for a tussle, beginning shortly. Here, the Australia side will tour England. Cricket Australia selectors presented the squad for the tour, highlighting Matt Renshaw as the captain of the touring team. The squad features Gabe Bell, Jake Carder, John Dalton, Tavis Dean at the front batting line-up. While, Mackenzie Harvey, Harry Nielsen, Ben Pengelley are selected as the bowling attack. Most of the players in the team are young. They will also play the warm-up ODI against England ahead of the upcoming series.

Per Greg Chappell, Australia national selector and talent manager, the young team is stuffed with the best players available in the nation at present. He commented, the selectors tried to ‘get the most competitive team possible’. The selection is also done keeping on mind the player’s availability in the Big Bash League as well as national team. Chappell said the upcoming series against England is a quality opportunity for all players involved. Also, he hoped England could get a ‘good test’ before the actual series.

The young squad had several players who was featured in the Sheffield Shield season. Dean, Jake Doran, and John Dalton were in the tournament apart from Chadd Sayers and Renshaw. Chappell accoladed Renshaw and Sayers pointing out their ‘quality and experience’. The selector also highlighted Jake Carder and Harry Nielsen who played the JTL One-Day cup with excellent performance. He added that its ‘pleasing’ to combine the best young talents in a single team and offer a good opportunity to budding cricketers.

The selectors also put up Mackenzie Harvey in the squad. The player is just 17 years old, but per Chappell, he has a ‘very exciting prospect’. In the Under-19 series against Pakistan, the young player knocked a hefty century. Australia selectors is preparing the teenager for Under-19 World Cup in 2020. He is the nephew of Ian Harvey.
