Aussie players to target Sheffield Shield as an entry to Ashes
Glenn Maxwell said he is only lagging by some runs and the Shield matches are a the second opportunity for him.

Australia is struck with a low form among its players. In the on-going tournament against India, the team just managed to escape a whitewash in the ODI series. It won only a single fixture off the five ODIs. In Test, it was a complete whitewash and in the recent T20 match, the first of the series, it lost again. Steven Smith injured his shoulders and returned to Australia. Under these circumstances, Australia will have to find a new form in the team with new players to tackle England in the upcoming Ashes series. On the other hand, England is through a strong form recently winning the recent matches against West Indies.

Glenn Maxwell is currently through a low form. However, Australia selectors have no other options to replace such players. In bowler, the team still can find some new faces, but to bring new players, it would have to select from the XI's. Usman Khawaja and his likes may be inducted in the team for Ashes. Also, Australia might bring on debutants from the domestic circuit. The last strategy always worked for Australia whenever there is dearth of strikers among the primary XI. The only player in team is David Warner on the batting line. In bowling, its top bets already emerged as futile attempts against India. The hopes against England is quite dim with the same ensemble.

Per Maxwell, his game will be better against England as he hopes the conditions to support him. The player was in fact, dropped from the ODI series after his poor performance. He played only three matches in the series. Maxwell wants to play the Shield games ahead of Ashes Test. The Sheffield Shield matches has emerged as the selection bets for Aussie players. Along with Maxwell, players like Hilton Cartwright, Marcus Stoinis and Nic Maddinson will play the Shield matches to prove their competence for the upcoming series against England.
