Andrew Strauss lauds Cook’s decision of Resignation
Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook had been among the best partners in the team.

Andrew Strauss, lately, expressed his thoughts on Alastair Cook’s decision of resignation as the captain of England. The former captain of the team said Cook stemmed from resignation for the time because he thought he had to deliver more. Per Strauss, the present director of Cricket in England, Cook had reservations about “how much he left in the tank.” In the press meet the ex-player and director also confirmed the next captain of the team will be announced shortly before the Caribbean tour. The upcoming series is set to begin on February 22. Strauss confirmed Cook’s decision to step down in Lord’s. He praised the record and contribution of the player as a captain. Cook, the 23 years old player led England in 59 test matches.

At the venue, Strauss lauded Cook for his decision. After the decision, it is now almost certain that Joe Root would have enough time to prepare for the next tour to South Africa, which is scheduled in July. Cook took the captaincy from Strauss back in 2012. He said the moment was right for him to not persuade Cook for carrying the captainship baton. He expressed citing his own thoughts how anyone feels in the situation. Per Strauss, a captain knows if he should carry on, but “deep down,” he knows, “it’s time to step aside.” He further added, Cook did it the right way. He said the player actually “allowed the dust to settle after the India tour.”

Strauss supported and trusted the player’s decision to step down as the captain. He disclosed, Cook took some time to speak to people closest to him and whom he trusted. There have been discussions on his resignation since the December tour to India. In the test series, England was defeated for 4-0. However, Cook refrained from taking a sharp decision, taking time to discuss the issue with Strauss about his intensions. The senior player and the ex-captain had constructive conversations about the issue.
