In the first T20 between United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan the latter sealed a 11-run win in Dubai. It is a breakthrough match between the new cricketing countries that would bring a good competition within the teams. Three matches will be played in the ongoing series, ending by December 18. Afghanistan posed 162, batting in the first inning, which UAE could not chase down. The visitor's inning was powered by the opening knock of Mohammed Shadzad. In the next inning, the team was salvaged by Fareed Ahmed and Rashid Khan, who swept the middle and the lower order notching two UAE wickets each.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat. Opener Shahzad was steady until the 10th over taking the score to 63, before he was dismissed by the bowler Mohammed Shahzad. He smashed 38 off 29 balls in the inning. Samiullah Shenwari followed him in the next ball. In the next over, Asghar Stanikzai was bowled by the same bowler. Shahzad knocked three wickets in two overs. In the next stretch, the team, however, recovered from the slog with a strong partnership from Mohammad Nabi and Karim Janat. The duo partnered for around six overs, hauling the score from 65 to 105. They batted together for 40 runs.

Karim Janat played as a debutant and delivered a substantial inning of 25, while, Nabi scored 26. After Janat was taken down in the run out there was an ending impetus from Najibullah Zadran. The player smashed 31 runs in just 10 balls beating 3 sixes and 2 fours in the last two overs. He hammered Rohan Mustafa for two consecutive sixes in the 18th over. In the final over, Amjad Javed was plundered for two fours and a six. In the concluding three overs, Afghanistan scored 55 runs.

The chase was challenging for UAE, as Afghanistan bowlers dominated the next inning as well. Janat broke through the openers in the fourth over taking down the top three wickets. Mushtafa and Shahzad were removed within three balls. The wickets took down UAE's chase to 41 for 3 but the inning found solace under Saiman Anwar and Rameez Shahzad. The players put forward a good partnership of more than 50 runs. It was a flashy stretch where UAE's run rate sored up to 9 runs per over. Anwar scored 34 off 27 balls and Shahzad had 49 of 32, the best score of the match.

After Anwar was removed by Rashid Khan, two more wickets fell in consecutive overs, stricken by Fareed Ahmed. The run rate fell drastically and in the last two overs the required figure emerged out at 30. In the ultimate over Muhammad Usman delivered two hefty sixes, but it was of no help to the required 27 runs. The damage was already done in the pre-ultimate over, where Rameez was dismissed while taking only three. UAE surrendered the match scoring 150 for 7.
