Abhinav Mukund is back to India Test squad as a back-up opener. India will play with Bangladesh for an off Test in Hyderabad. The match scheduled to begin on February 9 will have the Karnataka batsman on India's side. The match was last played before five years. Along with M Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane, Jayant Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Wriddhiman Saha, Mukund is inducted into the 16 players squad. Saha was injured in the recently concluded series against England in the last months of 2016. The wicket keeper cum batsman retuned fit to play with the team again.
Mukund played for India in August 2011 in the match against England. He was in the Team A since then. In the latest Ranji season, the batsman scored 849 runs. Playing 14 innings he made a half century or more for seven times. He also scored four centuries in the stance.
The selectors considered Saha for his strong strikes in the Irani Cup, that concluded shortly. In the match against Gujarat, the batsman hammered a double century to nick the victory. Witnessing his stance, MSK Prasad, the chief selector tagged him as the Number 1 keeper-batsman in the country. Saha was selected against Parthiv Patel, who delivered satisfactory strikes in the series with England. Patel proved his competencies scoring 42, 67 not out, 15 and 71 in the campaign. He also knocked a century for his team to win the maiden title for Gujarat. However, his strength as the wicket keeper was not better than that of Saha's. Prasad said the latter had better hands, which made the way for Saha into the national team.
Another retention in the team is Ishant Sharma. He was absent due to sickness in the early matches giving the way to Mohammed Shami. Now as the player is fit again, he is inducted to the squad as the fast bowler. India will play with two more pace bowlers in the match, Umesh Yadav, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. While, R Ashwin will conspire the spin attacks along with Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav and Amit Mishra. The players in the test squad are Virat Kohli, as the captain, M Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Pujara, Rahane, Karun Nair, Wriddhiman Saha as the keeper, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra, Abhinav Mukund, and Hardik Pandya.
