AB might miss Crucial fixture against India
Injured but recovering AB de Villiers will undergo a fitness test ahead of the match.

Ahead of the crucial group fixture against India, South Africa is bracing up for big game. It is a must win fixture for both the teams as the loser will wrap-up the campaign and the winner will enter the next phase of the tournament. So far, AB de Villiers has been a bit bleak in his current form in Champions Trophy. In the last two group fixture, the batsmen contributed less than even some meagre runs. His total is only 4 runs from two matches so far. The skipper also injured his hamstring on a minor scale and is undergoing treatment. It is, however, not serious as the player is expected to get fit by the schedule.

The Captain will be treated until the match. He will also undergo a fitness test before the game. This will determine his availability in the match. South Africa coach Russell Domingo said he is not concerned about AB de Villiers expecting him to deliver a “big performance”. The coach is sure of his form. In earlier matches, Hashim Amla and David Miller played good innings. Amla salvaged the match against Sri Lanka and Miller was the kingpin on the team in the fixture against Pakistan. Miller said, playing without support from de Villiers, it was “tough.”

AB de Villiers had a golden duck after 212 ODI innings. He is a strong bet for the team, especially against India. Playing without the skipper might backfire on the team. If somehow, he is absent, South Africa will turn the beacon to its top order comprising of Amla, Faf du Plessis and others. Morne Morkel, the top bowler said, the team cannot rest all on the captain’s shoulders and they will have to stand up and take the responsibility. He said as players or team mates, other cricketers in the squad must take the responsibility.
