In the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 match Jharkhand thumbed a victory over Tripura by 24 runs. The match was at JSCA International Stadium Complex on January 10, featuring intensive performance off Virat Singh, Ishan Kishan and Jharkhand bowlers. Tripura won the toss and sent in Jharkhand to bat. The team scored 163 for 6 wickets, the former’s strategy went haywire when their batsmen could not chase down the average score. Finally, the chase could not take off to better 139 for 9 wickets as Tripura surrendered to Jharkhand.
Batting first, Jharkhand openers Virat Singh and Ishan Kishan forged an impressive partnership of 61 runs. The duo batted together only for 5.2 overs until Kishan was runout at 26 off 16 balls. However, the second wicket partnership between Singh and Ishank Jaggi kept on the run rate striking momentum with occasional boundaries. Jharkhand reached 100 in 10.4 overs. Tripura bowler Gurinder picked 3 wickets giving away 21 runs. He bowled only four overs removing Saurabh Tiwary, Ishant Jaggi and Pratyush. In the inning, the end tally of 20 by Kumar Deobrat and Kaushal presented Tripura a challenging score to scale.
In the chase, Tripura pulled out a competitive beginning. Openers Smit Patel and Udiyan Bose added 55 in a partnership of 7 overs. It was Jharkhand bowler Kaushal Singh breaking though the team with the wicket of Bose. The batsman scored 29 off 24. After the first inning partnership, the team kept on losing wickets derailing the chase completely. The inning featured another partnership between Patel and Manisankar Murasingh. A good score was from Pratyush Singh adding 49 off 37.
Although there were considerable batting showdowns in Tripura’s inning, the inning finally was overpowered by Jharkhand bowlers. There were impressive attacks off Shahbaz Nadeem, Varun Aaron and Kaushal, picking up two wickets each.
